Abuja – THE South West Caucus of the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) has accused the Chairman, Board of Trustees and former Presidential Candidate of the Party, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu of being a dictator that disappointed millions who had hoped to actualize their dreams and ambitions on the platform of the party.
According to the caucus, millions of Nigerians saw the PPA as a party that the PPA would grow into a creditable opposition to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), just as it expressed disgust at what it alleged as manipulation of party affairs by Chief Kalu, which led to the recent resignation of leading members of the NWC.
Rising from an emergency meeting held in Abuja and presided over by the party`s South-West Zonal Chairman, Chief John Adesola Adelabu, the SW caucus in a statement at the end of the meeting, condemned the undemocratic tendencies of Chief Kalu and regretted that the party was now on the verge of collapse.
In attendance at the Abuja emergency meeting were the party`s gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State in the 2007 elections, Chief Oluremi Adiukwu-Bakare, Oyo State chairman, Dr. Abel Oluwatoyin Ojelabi, Lagos, Pastor Abiodun Tawede, Hon. Lanre Ajiboye, Osun State secretary, Deacon Kola Oladipupo, SW Zonal Secretary representing Ogun State.
Part of the statement reads, “The Party’s SW leadership were in Abuja in solidarity with the party`s erstwhile Deputy National Chairman (South) Lisa Olu Akerele, JP who resigned recently shortly after the sudden departure of the Party`s National Chairman, Mr Clement Ebri. The party`s National Treasurer, Chief Emma Omokwe, also quit in the gale of resignations that rocked the party on August 14.
“Lisa Olu Akerele had said shortly after his resignation that he had to quit his position in the party leadership due to the dictatorial tendencies of the BoT, Chief Kalu.
“Members condemned the personalization of the party affairs by Chief Kalu, noting that it is the height of inconsistency for the BoT Chairman to condemn Obasanjo and PDP only for him to stifle opinions in PPA which he co-founded with others.
“According to Chief Adelabu “where is internal democracy when the BoT Chairman would sit in his house and dictate orders to the National Chairman and other members of the NWC on how to run the party.
“The caucus condemned what it described as discrimination against the South West Zone by the Chief Kalu in setting up of party structures. We are aware that the BoT Chairman had given out millions of naira to states in the South East and North West for them to set up offices while he chose to neglect the South West.†Chief Adelabu maintained.
“The caucus commended Lisa Olu Akerele for his resilience in tolerating Chief Kalu thus far because according to them not “even in PDP does a BoT Chairman has such a tremendous autocratic power.†They also praised him for threading the path of honor by standing on the side of truth with his support for Mr Clement Ebri.
