The Police Service Commission weekend said it has promoted no fewer than 9,264 policemen in its first year in office contrary to reports that recommendations for the promotion of 1,322 officers were gathering dust at its offices.
A statement by the Head, Press and Public Relations Officer of the Commission, Mr. Ikechukwu Ani, said reports that the Chairman of the Commission received a letter from the Inspector-General of Police, requesting the release of promotion of senior officers which are said to be long overdue is not true.
According to the statement, “The Commission wishes to clarify that its Chairman did not receive any such letter from the Inspector- General of Police and is not aware of the delayed promotion of 1,322 policemen.
“The Commission since its inauguration last year has given prompt attention to promotion of deserving police officers and has in its first year in office promoted over 9,264 policemen. It is incorrect and in bad taste to say that recommendations for the promotion of the 1,322 officers were gathering dust at the Commission and that the files and other important memorandum were “stocked up on the table of a top shot in the Commission.
“The Commission wishes to also clarify that promotion in the Nigeria Police Force is not automatic as it is guided by defined criteria which includes availability of establishment vacancies.
