A four-man robbery gang,at the early hours of Monday, engaged a team of policemen in a gun battle, along Eric Moore road, Surulere, Lagos.
However, at the end of the gun duel said to have lasted 10 minutes, a suspected member of the gang laid dead while others reportedly escaped.
The bandits, said to have been terrorising residents of the area, reportedly positioned themselves along the road and on sighting a Nissan Xterra jeep approaching, opened fire which prompted the driver to stop abruptly.
Report said while they were at the verge of snatching the vehicle policemen from Bode Thomas on patrol swooped on them.
In the ensuing gun battle a suspected member of the gang, according to the command’s spokesman, Mr Frank Mba was gunned down, rendering the robbers mission unaccomplished. Recovered from the dead suspect, according to him, were a local made pistol and one of the gang’s operational unregistered Bijaj motorcycle.
Relatedly, policemen attached to ‘D’ Coy team squad, Alausa, have arrested a four man robbery gang that specialised in removing cars from where they are parked. The suspects who have been on the police wanted list were arrested Sunday, with a stolen Toyota Camry car.
The vehicle with plate number LL 314 KJA, was said to have been stolen from the Lagos State government quarters, Alausa.
Items recovered from the suspects according to Mba, included the gang’s two operational motorcycles, three phones, some documents and a purse containing charms.
Both cases Mba hinted, had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department(SCID) for further investigation.
