BENIN—Edo state police command has arrested a 50 year-old-man, Mr Sunday Umorea, for beheading his wife.
The suspect confessed that he committed the crime after the deceased received a phone call from her alleged lover and said she was going out to see him that night.
He said he decided to kill his 46-year-old wife and mother of four when she defied all means to persuade her not to go out to meet her caller.
The tragic incident, which occurred weekend at Uselu, Benin City, caused pandemonium in the area, as residents made frantic efforts to identify who the supposed caller was and what could have led to the suspect’s action.
Vanguard learnt that the couple, said to have been married for sixteen years, engaged themselves in a heated quarrel before the incident and all efforts made by neighbours to broker peace that night failed.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), in the state, ASP Peter Ogboi, “the suspect confessed to us that he killed the wife out of provocation because she wanted to go out that night to see her lover who called her.
“That was what he told the police but you know that the woman is no longer alive to say her own story. But we are still investigating and after we will charge him to courtâ€.
