Port Harcourt – The third governing board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, (NDDC) formally took over running of the Commission at the Commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt.
Handing over to the new board, the former acting Managing director who is now the Executive director Finance and Administration, Mr. Power Aginighan said a total of 2,461 physical projects had been awarded by the Commission. And out of this number, 1,015 were ongoing while 88 were terminated and to be reawarded.
He said the Commission was yet to mobilize contractors to site for 79 of the projects. Adding,Â thatÂ theÂ empowerment programme for 15,000 youths in the region being sponsored by the commission in partnership with some banks were also ongoing.
Continuing, he said the national assembly had passed a budget of N128,492,010.000.00 for the Commission this year.
Aginighan who urged the new board which he is a part of to endeavor to meet the aspirations of the region in terms of development said he was handing over a bank balance of sixty six billion, six hundred and eighty four million, eight hundred and thirty four thousand , six hundred and fifty nine naira (N66,684,834,659.00)
In his remarks, the new Managing director, Mr. Chibuzor Ugwoha acknowledged the enormous task before the Commission just as he appealed for the support of members of the board and other stakeholders in the region for the board to perform.
He said the new board would be guided in its operations by the NDDC master plan and other similar and relevant development documents for the region and the nation.
Adding, the new Chairman of the board, Air vice Marshal Larry Koiyan (rtd) called for partnership from youths, oil firms and other stakeholders from the region. According to him, the Commission being an interventionist agency was determined to take the region to the next level.
