The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) says it has initiated a fresh bidding round for licences in the 2.3GHz and other frequency bands. In a statement in Lagos on Monday, the commission said that the fresh bid was part of the issues resolved at its board meeting on Aug. 20, 2009 in Abuja.
The regulatory body said it acted based on the published directive by President Umaru Yarâ€™Adua for the commission to conduct a fresh bidding for the licences on the frequency band.
â€œFlowing from above, the programme for the fresh bidding round for licences in the 2.3GHz band and other frequency bands has been initiated by the board of the commission and full details willbe announced in due course.
â€œAll stakeholders are advised to look out for public announcements in this regard,â€ it said.The commission pleaded with all interested parties to forget the events of the past months and join it in fostering a nation where telecom services could be accessible and affordable to all. NCC pledged its absolute commitment to due process, respect for rule of law and unequivocal commitment to openness and transparency.
