The Yabo Local Government in Sokoto has sunk more than N200 million into the provision of social amenities to the rural dwellers, according to its Chairman,
Alhaji Bala Yabo.
Bala, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Sokoto, said that government was committed to transforming the rural areas so as to improve the lots of the people there.
Details of the expenditure showed that N30 million went into the construction, rehabilitation and expansion of various health centres across villages in the area.
According to him, N10 million was also spent to purchase essential drugs and medical equipment to enhance health care delivery.
He said that “a good part of the money” went into the construction of rural roads and drainage to prevent flooding in Yabo town.
The Local Government boss said that the council had engaged traditional rulers to sensitise their people to safeguard all government property in their domains.
“Everything must be done to protect the facilities because government does not have the resources to replace any destroyed facility,” he said.
