Abuja – The Constitution Review sub-committee on Land Use Act may include clauses in the amendment to the Land Use Act that would strip Governors of rights to make decisions on land in the Country.
Age restrictions on land ownership may also be lifted to enable Nigerians of all ages have access to land and own properties.
If the amendment is passed as proposed, Nigerians below the age of 21 would have the right to own land and properties.
Michael Aodoakaa, Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation said governors would have nothing to lose by having their rights forfeited by the new Act.
The chairman of the sub-committee, Rep. Aminu Tambuwal disclosed that all the state governors and the Minister for Federal Capital Territory have agreed to relinquish their powers of consent over land in their domains to ease up the process of land transactions in the country.
