BENIN—KIDNAPPERS of a Benin-based medical  practioner, Dr. Zacchaeus Asogun, who was abducted at about 8:15pm last weekend in Benin City has demanded the sum of N8 million from his family as ransom.

Dr. Asogun, a Consultant Surgeon and Head of Department of Surgery, Central Hospital, Benin City, and Medical Director of Asogun Specialist Clinic, Benin, was abducted  by unknown gunmen while attending to a patient in his clinic.
Family sources told newsmen on the telephone that the kidnappers allowed them to speak with the doctor for a few minutes before the ransom demand was made.

The source further disclosed that the family has not been able to raise the ransom demanded by the kidnappers, just as they added that the abducted doctor was blindfolded while being taken away.

It was gathered from police sources that the family of the abducted doctor had resolved not to involve security operatives in line with the demands of the kidnappers in order to save his life.

State Chairman of Nigeria Medical Association, Dr. Osahon Enabulele, said they were working towards ensuring the release of their colleague and blamed security operatives for not being able to track down the kidnappers.
