WARRIâ€”IJAW Youth Council (IYC), Western zone, yesterday asked the federal government to drop the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) because it will mortgage the future of all Ijaw/Niger-Delta people.
The council made the call in a statement issued at the end of its zonal joint expanded parliamentary session, presided over by the deputy speaker of parliament, Comrade Diranyei Deseotukpoemi.
In the statement signed by the National Deputy Clerk, Prince Oweilayefa Ekarika, and Comrade David Reje, for the council of organization leaders, the group called on the federal government to rebuild the Gbaramatu communities that were destroyed by the Joint Task Force on the Niger-Delta during its military operation in the area.
â€œThe federal government should render unreserved apology to the Gbaramatu people, Ijaws and the Niger-Delta at large.
â€œHenceforth, we crave the indulgence of the federal government to please stop calling our boys militants, they should be addressed as freedom fighters,â€ the group said.
The council also called for the establishment of rehabilitation centres for militants in strategic Ijaw communities/other ethnic nationality in the Niger-Delta.
