THE Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federal AGF, Mr. Michael Kaase Aondoakaa SAN, has declared that he has no gubernatorial ambition, hence has no intention to run against Governor Gabriel Suswam during the 2011 governorship election in Benue state.
The Minister described those peddling the unsubstantiated rumours of his intention to unseat Governor Gabriel Suswam come 2011, as enemies of Benue State who are bent on sowing the seed of discord between him and the state governor.
Addressing newsmen in Makurdi, the AGF lamented that he is suspecting the handiwork of those he described as the ‘fifth columnist who are trying to create a division amongst us’.
The Minister’s declaration is coming against the backdrop of reported erection of billboards and distribution of flyers in Lessel, his home town by unknown politicians drumming up support for his intended launch into the Benue State governorship race in 2011.
He described those behind the campaign as ill informed explaining that their intention could also be to distract him from dispassionately discharging the onerous responsibilities he is entrusted with at the Federal level.
The Attorney General who described the tasked before him as the AGF as very demanding stressed, “I have no ambition to contest the governorship election in Benue state, in fact my major concern is to help the President accomplish his vision for this country just as I would also ensure that the principles of rule of Law which is cardinal to this administration is entrenched in our body polity.â€
“Please those behind this mischief must stop it. I have not told anybody that I want to contest in the governorship election because I am not interested because I have enormous responsibilities at the federal level as the AGF and I wouldn’t want to be distractedâ€.
“Governor Suswam and I are long time friends who through our positions have declared to serve humanity, Nigerians and the people of Benue State and I must honestly tell you that we are not interested in fighting each other nor assuming the position of leaders of the state because we see ourselves as servants of the people and we are comfortable with thatâ€, he said.
The Justice Minister who described Governor Suswam as one of the governors who has keyed into the Vision 20-2020 of the Federal Government through the provision of people oriented projects in the state, sued for support for the Governor especially in the face of the meager resources at the disposal of government occasioned by the current global financial downturn.
Aondoakaa said, “We should concern ourselves more with coming out with strategies to help the young man execute the numerous ongoing developmental projects he has on ground for our people because we all know the global financial meltdown has placed much burden on him, hence our concern should be to ensure that he is assisted to complete the projects and not to distract him or create discord in the stateâ€, he said.
