Minister and Chairman National Sports Commission, Sani Ndanusa, is worried over the Golden Eaglets’ grouping in the Fifa Under-17 World Cup as the team was drawn in group A alongside Argentina, Germany and Honduras.
Ndanusa, who hitherto had said that the country has a difficult task of preparing the team, expressed that the draw has further compounded the task with the Eaglets being in a ‘group of death’.
“We have a real task to accomplish; before it was the challenge of successfully defending the title we won two years ago in South Korea. But now, we have a bigger challenge of qualifying from the group where there is Argentina, Germany and Honduras. There is no push-over among these countries.
“I must tell you, we are in a real difficult situation and we need to double our efforts. Our hosting the event notwithstanding, we still need to work hard in terms of preparation in order to accomplish the dream of retaining the titleâ€, Sani Ndanusa said.
Remarkably, the Eaglets have set a record of having gone through three different coaches since the team were assembled; the latest being John Ogbu, who was recently asked to start handling the team.
