Bauchi – TheÂ Emir of Dass in Bauchi State, Alhaji Bilyaminu Othman has urged parents in the state to allow their children to be immunised against child killer diseases.
Speaking while flagging-off the August edition of the immunisation campaign in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area, he assured that the drugs are safe, noting that they would not allow the campaign to continue if they are sure that the drugs administered to children are contaminated.
According to him, the drugs have been scientifically proved to be effective in preventing children from contracting child-killer diseases. He stated that the eradication of diseases in the past was possible due to the co-operation of parents.
The Emir expressed optimism that with the co-operation of all stakeholders, polio disease would be eradicated.
Oathman said that parents should no longer attribute polio infection to witches but rather avail themselves with the opportunity offered by government to eradicate the diseases.
He then expressed the commitment of the traditional institutions to eradicating the diseases in their emirate council, adding that they would give their support to ensure the success of the exercise.
He stated that in his emirate council, he has set up a committee to enlighten the public on the importance of the exercise.
Speaking earlier, the Executive Chairman of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Musa Dambam, commended the efforts of the traditional and religious leaders in enlightening their subject on the importance of the immunisation exercise.
He stated that at the beginning of the immunisation campaign, not much success was recorded but noted that with the involvement of traditional and religious leaders, many parents now allowed theirÂ children to be vaccinated.
