BENIN—TO ensure effective waste management in Benin City and other major towns in Edo, the state government is to spend the sum of N346, 879,003.38 for the procurement of waste management equipment.
A statement by the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Abdul Oroh, said at the end of yesterday’s State Executive Council meeting that the equipment to be procured include three units of Roll-On-Roll-Off trucks with hydraulic hook hoist, receptacle buckets and accessories.
According to him, two units of compacting trucks, two units of three- wheeled broom street sweepers and two units of 10 tonne tipper trucks will also be acquired by the govrnment.
Oroh disclosed that three reputable companies were awarded the contract to supply the waste management equipment and gave their names as Mon International Limited, Seamaster Limited and Oaka International Limited.
The commissioner said that with the award of the contract, evacuation of debris and other waste products from de-silted drains in all the major cities would begin soon stressing that the government’s desire to beautify the state was in full course.
He assured that the government of Adams Oshiomhole was determined to turn things around for the better and solicited for cooperation of the contractors and people.
