Don’t be intimidated, Edo PDP tells members

BENIN—THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Edo State, yesterday urged its members not to be intimidated by what it described as threats from Action Congress (AC) over next weekend’s Akoko Edo House of Assembly re-run election.

In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Chief Nosa Adams, the party raised an alarm over what it described as “desperate moves by AC to win at all cost by thumb-printing and stuffing ballot boxes, even before the election is conducted.

“This is a deliberate ploy by the AC to use state machinery to manipulate the election and truncate the wishes of the people”.

But countering the allegation, AC spokesman in the state, Mr. Retti Uzzi, asserted that “ every body knows that PDP’s job is to stuff ballot papers before every election.

“This is what they are planning to do but it will not work, that is why they are raising false alarm”.

We have done our home work and we know that we have a governor that believes in the rule of law and he cannot involve himself in things inimical to our democracy”.

However, the PDP said “it is unfortunate that while we have been campaigning from house to house in the area convincing people to vote for our party and candidate for continuity, AC and its members were manipulating the entire process to get victory through the back door.

“ We, therefore, call on the police and the law enforcement agencies to investigate these serious acts which are designed to derail our fledging democracy.”
