Clerics advised to live examplary life

By Etop Ekanem
Clergymen have been advised to live examplary life by pursuing things of the spirit rather than material things.
The advice was given by the Rt. Rev. Nathaniel N. Inyom, the Bishop of Makurdi, during the consecration of two bishops at the Cathedral Church of St Jude of The Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Ebute Metta, Lagos, Sunday.

The Most Rev. Peter Akinola, Primate of The Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, who consecrated the bishops — Ven. Emmanuel O. Adekunle and Ven. Joseph A. F. Olusola — charged them to “Go forth into the world in peace, be of good courage, hold fast that which is good, render to no man evil for evil, strengthen the faint-hearted, support the weak, help the afflicted, honour all men, love and serve the Lord, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.”

In his sermon on the occasion, the Rt. Rev. Nathaniel N. Inyom enjoined the congregation to pray for the newly consecrated bishops so that they can excel in their ministry and advised the bishops to “live by example by pursuing things of the spirit rather than material things.”

On the spiritual significance of the consecration, the Rt Rev. Johnson Akinwamide Atere, Bishop of Awori said “we are spiritually more designed in terms of leadership. We are growing in number and that shows the movement in the church of God, that shows an advancement in the church of God. It means there is holy spirit in the church.”

The service was witnessed by former Vice President, Dr Alex Ekwueme and wife, Archbishops, Bishops, the Rt Rev. Adebayo Akinde, Bishop, Diocese of Lagos Mainland and well wishers from different parts of the country.
