Gov. Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State has said that the choice of Alhaji Babayo Gamawa, a former Speaker of the state Assembly, as his new deputy, was based on merit.
Speaking at the swearing in of the new deputy, Yuguda described Gamawa as a committed and responsible leader who had the welfare of the people his priority.
The state’s Chief Judge,Justice Sulaiman Darazo, swore in the new deputy governor, whose immediate predecessor, Alhaji Garba Gadi, was impeached by the Bauchi assembly on Thursday.
Yuguda said that Gamawa’s attributes endeared him to his fellow legislators, whom he carried along in the discharge of his duties as the former Speaker.
Yuguda declared: “The choice of Babayo Gamawa as the new Deputy Governor of the State is therefore based more on merit than any primordial consideration.
“Besides being a vibrant young man, Babayo Gamawa has, during the last decade, acquired knowledge and experience in the art of governance.â€
He reminded Gamawa that his appointment as the number two citizen of the state was a challenge as well as an opportunity to further serve the people with all his strength.
“I would like to remind you that you have now crossed over from the legislature to the executive arm of government.
“You should therefore shed the garb of a law maker and put on that of a law executor, policy maker and implementer,†Yuguda said.
