Awka – The Anambra State House of Assembly has charged Town Union executives, religious leaders and other stakeholders to compliment government enlightenment campaign on the use of long  lasting, insecticide treated mosquito nets, in a bid to fight the malaria scourge.

Chairman of the House Ccommittee on Health, Mr. Anthony Ezechinwoye, said in Awka during an interaction session with journalists on the Roll Back Malaria programme, that the nets, if effectively used, could reduce the scourge of malaria to the barest minimum.

He expressed satisfaction with the effective implementation of the programme in the state through the collaboration of the State and Federal Governments with international partners, which he noted, was yielding the expected result.

Ezechinwoye observed that Governor Obi’s health reform programmes had totally transformed the sector with the rebuilding and equipping of collapsed structures in health centres, hospitals and health institutions.

In his reaction, the President-General Ogidi Union, Chief Obinna Ekpechi, advised officials of the Ministry of Health to always inform Town Union executives on the distribution of drugs to health centres in their communities to enable them take necessary measures to ensure that the drugs are properly distributed to the target beneficiaries.
