Ex-International Emmanuel Amuneke has backed the exclusion of Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins from the squad to face Tunisia on September 6 at the Abuja National Stadium.
The decision, he said, is a bold one and is for the benefit of the team, stressing that Amodu has the right to choose whoever he wants. He added that with the other players selected, he is confident they will deliver all three points.
“Amodu’s job has reached the level in which he can take a decision, especially the one that would better the team. As a coach he knows his players, those who can play and those who can not. And I believe is more concerned with players who are committed and therefore any decision he is making on any player should be final.
“The absence of Matins cannot prevent the team from defeating the north Africans. I believe the other players listed for the match are capable of giving us the maximum three points on that day,†he told Brila FM sports
Amodu had hinted while briefing the press in Lagos during the week that Martins non-invitation is hinged on his attitude towards the team in the past. He disclosed that all efforts made to reach the Wolfsburg of Germany player before the release of the 21-man list was unfruitful and that he did not include his name because he needed to be cock sure about his commitment before inviting him.
The squad are expected to report to camp on Monday August 31 for a full week of training before the match.
