KANO —In a move seen as a bid to consolidate his base within the structure of All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP), Governor Ibrahim Shekarau of Kano State has appointed 153 political aides ahead 2011 general elections.
A statement issued by the Press Secretary to the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Kabiru Salisu Koki, stated that Alhaji Sule Yau Sule, former Director of Press is now a Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity.
The break-down of the appointment shows that Shekarau appointed 78 Special Assistants, 12 Zonal Assistants, with the three Senatorial Districts having four slots each.
The statement also announced the appointment of 44 Local Government Liaison Officers to each of the existing local governments in the state
Under the new arrangement, four non-indigenes were also appointed as Special Assistants to the Governor on Inter-Community Relations while AbdulRahaman Etta, Tola Tella and Adamu Maishafi made the list of the new appointees.
The development followed the adoption of the governor by his party’s local chapter, a couple of weeks ago, as the sole candidate for the presidential primary coming up in 2010.
