Ilorin —The Vice Chancellor, University of Ilorin, Professor Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, has pleaded with the striking members of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to understand the plight of the Federal Government, accept the offer on the alter of sacrifice and call off the strike.
The university don who made the plea yesterday during the opening session of the meeting of the visiting members of the Education Task Fund (ETF) with the management of the university noted that Nigerians as a people needed to make a lot of sacrifice in order to contribute their own quota to the growth and development of the nation.
Oloyede said: “We all cannot destroy the nation because we want to make a point, rather such point should be made in such a way that they will not affect the growth and development of the nation irrespective of the demand.”
“For example if a professor of medicine is on strike and as a result of that he is not able to attend to a dying child and the person looks at the baby and look the other side saying he is on strike and the bay dies, how will the professor feel when eventually the money is paid but the child whose life could have been saved by him could not be revived .â€
