The Senate’s Deputy Chairman Senate Committee on Ecology, Senator Annie Okonkwo, has described unemployment as a major factor contributing to insecurity and kidnapping in Anambra state.
Speaking in an interview with Vanguard, Senator Okonkwo frowned at the security situation in the state, just as he said that it was not out of place to say Anambra is under siege in recent times.
According to him “unemployment is a major contributor to this vice because an idle mind is always the devil’s tool and as a result of the high rate of unemployment in the country, the youths, who are supposed to be the backbone to leverage or jump-start the economy are mostly idle. They become ready-made instruments for the devil’s useâ€.
Further he said, “I am at pains over this unpalatable scenario that is playing out in my state and it beats my imagination why we should fold our hands and allow faceless, remorseless and hardened criminals seize and colonize the state. I say no to this, we must do something and act nowâ€.
