By BABAJIDE KOMOLAFE

AN undergraduate student of University of Maiduguri,  Borno State, Miss Habiba Mona Saliu has emerged winner of N50 million in the Diamond Bank’s SavingsExtra promotions.

A first year student of Language and Linguistics department, Habiba beat over six million Savings Xtra account holders in a draw held in Lagos last week.

The draw also produced winners of five generators, five LCD Televisions, five Air conditioners and one Toyota Camry car. All together the bank gave out N60 million at the end of the draw which is the final one for the first year of the promotions. When informed on phone that she had won N50 million, Habiba, who at that time was in the midst of school mates could not contain herself as she  shouted for  joy.

The Savings Xtra promotion was introduced last year by Diamond Bank to reward its customers and help them develop savings habit. . To qualify for the draws  customers have to save up to N10,000 in their Savings Xtra account.

Speaking at the draw  Group Head, Product/Retail Brand Services, Diamond Bank Mrs. Angela Okonmah said that altogether the bank had given out N200 million to 220 customers.

“Savings Xtra has been a great success for the bank and our customers. The N 200 million is in addition to all existing benefits of our product. Customers simply had to bank with us and leave at least N 10,000 to qualify – no additional money required, no forms or entry forms to complete. It has been our way of giving something back to our savings Xtra customers.

As a bank we rely on our customers being loyal to us and we think it is right that we repay that loyalty – which is the very reason we introduced and launched Savings Xtra.

We want our Savings Xtra balances to grow; it helps our business and also helps the overall economy. A culture of high savings in any country is a good thing. We think that Savings Xtra helps to drive that culture but with some fun as well.

This has given us the opportunity to reward loyalty and return back to the society. It has been extremely gratifying to listen to the voices and see the faces of our loyal customers when they are told that they have won – a TV, a car, one million Naira, ten million and fifty million Naira and so many other fantastic prizes.

Once they get over the initial shock, tears often flow and lives have indeed been changed.  So this is the last draw of the 12 months and today we will complete and deliver on our N 200 million commitment.”

Okonmah said that the bank would sustain the Savings Xtra promotion but with bigger prize money. The bank she said, would double the total prize money to N400 million in the second year of the promo.
