Senate president’s wife wants more attention for widows

A WEEK after the fund raising and musical concert for the Tiv widows, in collaboration with the Nigerian hip-hop musician, Tu-Face Idibia at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja, the co-ordinator, Entertainment Extra-ordinary and wife of the Senate president, Dr (Mrs.) Rose-Marie David Mark, has shared N2 million to 53 Tiv widows and two of their daughters who performed at the musical concert.

The ceremony saw each widow getting the sum of N35,000 and the two daughters, N10,000 each with educational scholarship for the two girls to university level within the country.

Dr. (Mrs.) David Mark who is also the initiator/national co-ordinator of Voluntary Medical Promotive Initiative (VPI) also disclosed that arrangements were in top gear for each of the 53 widows that performed to get a life insurance policy that would ensure that they and their children have a secured and better tomorrow.

The initiator therefore called for more support from Nigerians in position of influence and authority to ensure that on-going efforts to bring smile to the widows in particular and women in general be sustained.

The presentation of the cash gift which was witnessed by the widows and their leaders brought about tears of joy from the widows and also a healing therapy to all that witnessed the brief ceremony.

She further stressed that in African society and Nigeria in particular, widows find it hard to sustain themselves and their children and most often resort to unimaginable and unbelievable activities in an effort to sustain themselves, thus falling victim of unscrupulous sets of people.
