Rainstorm kills one, injures others in Yobe

DAMATURU — Disaster struck on Tuesday night at Sabon-Layi Dagare village in Nangere Local Government of Yobe State when a rain storm destroyed property, killing one Jummai Shehu Isa while several others suffered various degrees of injury.
Eyewitness said “almost one hundred houses were blown off by the rain storm that lasted more than three hours.â€
At the medical centre in the village, a medical personnel who did not disclosed his name told the governor who visited the area yesterday that the drugs at the centre could not go round to all the victims and called on the local government council to assist the centre by providing adequate drugs.
Governor Ibrahim Gaidam responding, advised the people of Sabon-Layi Dagere village to exercise restraint on the incidence, adding: “It is an act of God. A blessing in disguise and not a curse.â€
The governor then directed the Yobe State Emergency Relief Agency (SERA) to compile a report on the extent of damage including the number of people affected for possible assistance.
