WARRI—the traditional ruler of Ogulagha Kingdom, Delta State, His Royal Majesty Elder Joseph Timiyan, has described the purported amnesty granted to militants by the Federal Government as political solution that would not solve the pending Niger Delta crisis.
The Ijaw monarch noted that the amnesty only provided a political solution, because even if the militants drop their arms or not it has not still solved the problem.
According to him, the only solution to the Niger Delta problem is for the Federal Government to directly contact the true key traditional rulers, youths leaders and community leaders of the aggrieved oil communities in the creeks and kingdoms to chat a way forward with them in providing a lasting solution to the problem which originated as a result of deprivation and marginalization of the oil communities.
Unless the Federal Government rescinds its decision and dialogue directly with the oil communities, it is not ready to solve the problem. Just as he blamed the Federal Government for recognizing self acclaimed leaders parading themselves as Niger Delta leaders, whereas they are not from any of the oil communities in the region.
He lamented that this self acclaimed leaders were only seeking for political appointment and not the interest of the Federal Government and the Niger Delatns.
