KANO — The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is set to conduct fresh congress that will see to the emergence of new executive council in Kano.
Ambassador Sa’idu Pindar-led Caretaker Committee told newsmen in Kano that no fewer than 5,000 members had been registered for the exercise scheduled for August 15.
The National Headquarters of the PDP had sacked the Kano executive in March following complaints by caucus members that the contraption was dominated by the loyalists of former Defence Minister, Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Pindar said the registration was concluded in 483 wards, while giving assurance that the congress for Fagge D1 ward will be done soon.
The Chairman of the Caretaker Committee revealed that the party would commence issuance and sale of forms to interested party members wishing to contest for vacant positions.
Pindar then assured party loyalists of a level playing ground in the spirit of internal democracy, stressing that all contestants will be treated equally before the law.
He further said they were encouraged by the high registration figure, pointing out that it is a clear indication that people are ready for a change in 2011.
