…says it’s a rudderless contraption
ABUJA – THE Leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday tongue lashed the proponents of ‘Mega Party’ in the country, describing them as self serving and a rudderless contraption without any concrete agenda for advancing democracy or promoting national development.
The party also urged the Action Congress (AC) to as a matter of urgency put its house in order if Nigerians must take the party and its members very seriously.
According to PDP, those behind the formation of the party were strange bed fellow who are only interested in grabbing power for its sake at all cost, just as it stressed that they belong to that group of Nigerians who have woefully lost out in the last General Elections.
In a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Professor Rufa’i Ahmed Alkali in Abuja yesterday, the public denouncement of the mega party by the Action Congress (AC) has vindicated the PDP’s position that “the attempt to form the amalgam was not only ill-advised but will ultimately be still born or dead on arrivalâ€
Part of the statement reads, “We wish to draw the attention of Nigerians to the discordant voices trailing the desperate but fruitless attempts at the formation of the called mega party by some political dinosaurs.
“We earlier drawn attention of Nigerians to the fact that the proposed ‘Mega Party’ was opportunistic, self serving and a rudderless contraption without any concrete agenda for advancing democracy or promoting national development. We had also mentioned that the promoters of the idea were strange bed fellow whose only goal is to grab power for its sake at all cost, having woefully lost out in the last General Elections.
“The public denouncement of the so called mega party by the Action Congress which is one of the small groups that hatched the idea did not come to us as surprise. In fact, it vindicates our position that the attempt to form the amalgam was not only ill-advised but will ultimately be still born or dead on arrival.
“The realization by the action Congress that they are opting out due to their commitment to Electoral Reforms is a face saving measure aimed at masking their failures and inadequacies to offer fresh ideas on how to move Nigeria forward.
They cannot now pretend or claim credit for the ongoing Electoral Reform project which is the sole idea of President Umaru Musa Yar’adua and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“Nigerians now know the difference between those who are genuinely committed to impacting on their lives through a well laid out agenda and those desperate and drowning elements who will cling to any straw to survive. We wish to advise the Action Congress which has now broken into splinter groups to put its house in order it wants to be taken seriouslyâ€.
