Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole, has charged the newly inaugurated committees on Protection of Government Properties and Forest Monitoring to be civil in carrying out their legitimate responsibilities without bending the rules.
The governor, while inaugurating both committees in Benin City, commended the committee on demolition of illegal structures, saying “Your method must be civil. Avoid brutality or disrespect because the people put us here.â€
A statement endorsed by the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr. John Mayaki, said government’s decisions were meant to be enforced justly and fairly and that the committees must deal with party men the same wayit deals with the people they have never met before.
The governor charged the committees to exhibit courage in dealing with issues, but should be civil in their dealings with the people.
According to the statement, “The committee on demolition of illegal structures has been assisting government in the way they go about their duties and has shown that our roads are not as narrow as we thought, so also the committee on petroleum monitoring is doing a good job.
“You must show sufficient political will and any one who engages you is engaging with government. Members of these committees probably made the most sacrifice for this project and the task now is to translate this vision to reality.
Ensure that our forest is not violated; stop indiscriminate felling of tress which could endanger environment and cause disaster,†it said.
“I am aware that Edo state has the best wood around this part of the world and economic agents would want to explore this to the benefit of the stateâ€, the governor stated.
In his reaction, the Chairman of Protection of Government Properties Committee, Chief Sylvanus-Peters Eruaga, assured the governor that his committee shall without, fear or favour, prepare to step on both small, medium and big toes anytime it became necessary in the course of protecting and defending government properties, policies, and programmes.
Eruaga said so long as the committee’s actions would yield positive developmental results and serves as corrective measures towards achieving a success story for the good people of Edo state through the Adams Oshiomhole led administration, he would go about his job without fear or favour.
