OWERRIâ€”Imo State government has called on the Federal Government to take note of the wrong perception of Nigeria in respect of the Niger DeltaÂ problems, adding that such negetiveÂ perception should be urgently addressed.
Governor Ikedi Ohakim drew Federal Governmentâ€™s attention to the problems of the area, when he played host to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chief Ojo Maduekwe, at Government House, Owerri.
â€œThe Niger Delta region has sadly become the focal point of the world. The Federal Government must do everything possible to redress the wrong perceptionâ€, Ohakim said.
The Governor mentioned some of the projects slated for commissioning when the state will host President Umaru Yarâ€™Adua later this month to include, the Court of Appeal Complex, Owerri, digitalized Orient Television and Frequency Modulated Radio (FM) stations and the dualized Owerri-Umuahia road.
Speaking earlier, Chief Maduekwe described Governor Ohakim as â€œa committed leaderâ€, whose policies and programmes are people oriented.
â€œThe provision of infrastructural facilities, healthcare delivery, quality education and the ability to fight corruption in the state have showcased his vision on of the New Face of Imo agenda, which has become a huge successâ€, Maduekwe said.
