Nigeria has emerged champions at the International Tennis Federation (TF), west and central Africa junior tournament held in Dakar, Senegal
The tournament, which is for under 12 and 14 players, served was preceded by a training programme that started on July 18, saw Nigeria scooping two gold, three silver and two bronze medals to emerge tops in a pool comprising eight other countries.
Disclosing this yesterday on the telephone, coach and leader of the team, Mohammed Ubale said that the players did their best to put the countryâ€™s flag on the highest pedestal, stressing that they thoroughly deserved their victory because of the preparations they put into the tournament.
â€œWe did not lack anything preparing for this tournament and since there was a training programme for all the teams before the tournament started, it was easy for our players to shine because we had already drilled them for the tasks ahead.
â€œBut what made victory to come for us was the determination shown by these players and I am very proud to be associated with them and hope they go in this gameâ€, said Ubale, who is Nigeriaâ€™s junior tennis coach.
Four players, comprising Linus Paul, Emmanuel Idoko, Sylvester Emmanuel nd Joseph Imeh, featured for Nigeria. They would return to the country
