Millionaires Emerge in Union Bank ‘Save and Win’ Promo

By Lucky Fiakpa
With two millionaires already announced in the bank’s saving bonanza, all eyes are now on who will emerge winners of the Prado Jeeps and the landed properties in Lagos and Abuja, Lucky Fiakpa writes

Given some of the prizes on display in the Union Bank saving bonanza makes it look like a game of deceit. Houses, Toyota Land Cruiser (Prado SUVs), Toyota Corolla Cars, Motorcycles, Cash gifts (N25m) and over one million other prizes including – Handsets, T/Shirts, Calculators, mugs, etc. are on parade. Can this be real?

Indeed, this has become a common question on the lips of those that have won some of the juicy prizes so far.
To Mrs. R. S. Vilo, who saves with the Lafia, Nassarawa State branch of the bank, it sounded like some expensive joke when she was told that she had won N1 million in the draws. That was indeed the very first draw of the raffle and she was the first winner of the N1 million prize.

Mr. Badamosi A. Najeem, who saves with the Bank Street branch in Jos, Plateau State also won N1 million while 97 others won in the N500,000; N250,000; N100,000; N50,000; N25,000; and N10,000 cash prize categories.
The first draw conducted in Lagos recently, had His Royal Majesty, Oba Babatunde Rilwan Akiolu, Osualale I, the Oba of Lagos, as the Special Guest of Honour at the event and he also picked the first millionaire winner of the promo. Mrs. Rachael Adepitan, wife of the Chairman, Mushin Local Government Area of Lagos State, picked the second millionaire winner.

In his address, Dr Barth Ebong, Group Managing Director/Chief Executive of Union Bank, stated that over the years the Bank had been trying to create banking habit and to ensure that people bring their funds into the safety and reliability of the bank, “which is an institution that has found itself over the years building the productive sector of the economy”.

He stressed that the savings bonanza was to encourage customers and prospective ones alike to continue to develop banking habit and grow it. “Under the savings bonanza, we are saying that we want to enrich you more and faster by getting you to try your luck, not only that you save and earn interest on your funds”, he said.
While highlighting the other attractive prizes available to lucky customers during the promo, Dr. Ebong noted that it was a brilliant opportunity for customers to take advantage of the legacy of Union Bank and urged them to remain steadfast with the bank as they could never regret their relationship with it.

The Director of Surveillance and Enforcement, Consumer Protection Council, Mr. Emmanuel Amlai, who represented the Director-General of the Council and witnessed the raffle draw, commended the bank for its transparency and noted that customers were being rewarded for their faithfulness, loyalty and contributions to the growth of the bank.
The Promo is open to old, new and reactivated accounts and it is also meant for both existing and prospective customers. There are over one million prizes to be won in the promo. They include Houses, Toyota Corolla Cars, Toyota Land Cruiser (Prado SUVs), Motorcycles, Cash gifts (N25m) and over one million other prizes including – Handsets, T/Shirts, Calculators, mugs, etc. Savings Promo which started on April 01 is expected to end September 30, 2009.
