Yenagoa—Residents of Etegwe suburb of Yenagoa the Bayelsa State capital were Tuesday evening thrown into mourning when a man ran amok and hacked to death an aged woman and a her daughter, a mother of four.

The assailant who is believed to be a serial killer it was also learnt raped one of the victims after stabbing her to death.
Vanguard gathered that the tragic incident occurred at 5p.m in one of the sparsely populated new lay out area of the Etegwe suburb which presently could not be accessed by cars.

However, a cousin to the deceased mother of four escaped death by the whiskers when she miraculously evaded the assailant and locked herself inside the house before he could get to her.

The deceased aged woman and her daughter whose remains have since been deposited at the Okolobiri General Hospital mortuary in the outskirts of Yenagoa were identified as Madam Pamela Naingba (nee Marpka) and Koreakegha.

Bomiegha Jairus, a cousin to Koreakegha who could have been the third victim was however lucky to have cheated death by the whiskers.

This reporter who visited the scene of the incident, an isolated but fenced premises noticed two different spots covered with dried thick blood ostensibly the spots where the deceased were clubbed to death by the assailant while sympathizers and neighbours were discussing the death of the woman and her daughter.

Vanguard learnt that trouble started when the mother and daughter who were staying together in the isolated building decided to engage the services of a guard.

A family friend was said to have introduced a Hausa man to the deceased mother and daughter but that the parties could not agree on the monthly salary.

The guard to be was said to have demanded N20, 000 as his monthly salary but the woman’s daughter insisted on N15, 000 which the former turned down and left.

It was however learnt that on that fateful Tuesday evening just as the aged woman, Madam Pamela was sewing in the balcony of her house, a man came knocking on the gate prompting her daughter, Koreakegha to go and inquire, who the visitor was.

On realizing that it was the same person she had earlier discussed employment issue with she opened the gate, which turned out to be a costly mistake as she was stabbed severally.

The agonizing cry of the lady attracted the mother who rushed to the scene ostensibly to save her daughter only for the assailant to descend on her also and stabbed her to death.

Apparently not done, the blood thirsty assailant pounced on his third victim, a cousin to the deceased but she miraculously managed to escape and locked herself inside the house before he finally fled the scene of the incident.

Contacted, the State police public relations officer, Mr. Iniobong Ibokette (DSP) confirmed the incident but declined to make further comments.
