upporters Club, Dr. Rafiu Ladipo, took a cursory look at the mammoth crowd that turned out at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on Sunday to cheer Enyimba and Sharks in the Federation Cup final and declared that Governor Babatunde Fashola has done well for football.

Governor Fashola was instrumental to the turn-out of fans when he ordered all local Government Areas to release 200 buses that conveyed fans to and from the stadium free.

“I could not believe it when I looked round the stadium. There were fans as far as my eyes could go. It sent chills down my spine. It reminded me of the 80s when Nigerian football was thick and Nigerians embraced it. The stadium was filled to the brim as if it was an English  Premiership match. It was unbelievable. More so at a time that Nigerians have abandoned home matches for European ones.

I am praising Fashola because he has brought football back home to Lagos, the home of football. Before now, football was dead in Lagos. The abandonment of the National Stadium, Surulere, did not help matters as all attention shifted to the National Stadium in Abuja. But Fashola has made it possible to bring back football to Lagos with the first class standard facilities at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.

Everything about the Stadium is world class and I learnt from those who watched on Television that the coverage was akin to what we see of foreign matches. The pitch was friendly to Television and the organisation was superb”, Ladipo, who is in charge of Mobilisation for the U-17 World Cup to be hosted by Nigeria later in the year said.

He urged other governors to borrow a leaf from Fashola to bring the dividends of democracy to the door steps of the people. “There is no Nigerian who lives in Lagos and has been to Lagos before now that would not be proud of the excellent work Fashola is doing.

And since sports is adored by Nigerians, those in authority should relieve the tensions of Nigerians by providing good sporting facilities”. He noted that Supporters Club (Worldwide) is proud and would honour him for bringing back Nigerians to the stadium.
