As preparations for this year’s lesser Hajj, Umrah, intensifies, Kwara State goveernment has appointed MedView Airlines as the official carrier of its Muslim pilgrims.
Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abdul Ganiyu Cook-Olododo, who signed the letter of award to the effect on behalf of the state government, said an agreement would soon be signed.
He said with the appointment of the airline, Governor Bukola Saraki has opened a gateway between Kwara State and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
According to him, the state government’s decision to engage the airline is to make the exercise stress free for the state’s pilgrims.
Alhaji Cook-Olododo noted that the government took cognisance of the problems pilgrims from the state had gone through in the past in efforts to fulfil their religious obligations, adding that the appointment of MedView would help nip it in the bud.
Media Consultant to Med View Airline, Alhaji Kunmi Layiwola, said the airline will, by virtue of the letter of award, fly pilgrims from the state direct from Ilorin to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and back after the exercise.
He said Med-View Airline successfully pioneered the airlift of International pilgrims for the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) in 2007.
