The Commonwealth Wrestling Challenge is a competition for the best wrestlers from all the countries that make up the Commonwealth.

De Commander left for Britain on Friday to train in London before flying to Scotland for the competition.
Governor Orji, who organized a sent-forth gathering for the Nigerian flag bearer in his office over the weekend, tasked De Commander to train very hard for the competition knowing full well that Nigerian youths were looking up to him to show the world that talents abound in the country.

Governor Orji said, “We are encouraging him to go to Scotland and win. He is going to Scotland to battle at the Commonwealth level before coming back to Aba to defend his African heavyweight crown.

“We are supporting him because we have seen the enormous talent God has deposited in him. So, we want him to be as popular as the Shawn Michaels, the Hulk Hogans, SuperFly Snukas, the Undertakers and all the best wrestlers of this world.

“We are champions of football in Nigeria, but we want to go beyond football to nurture the best youths in Nigeria in every sphere of life.

“That is why we are encouraging all the talented Abia youths to come forward so that we will help them to be the best they can.

“We are doing this because we have realized that if the youths were gainfully employed the problem of youth restivessness and the crimes associated with it would be a thing of the past.”

Governor Orji at the occasion presented De Commander with the flight ticket and other documents for his journey to the Commonwealth competition.
Responding, De Commander thanked the governor for his support, while pledging that he would return from the championship a hero.

According to De Commander, “I am happy to tell everybody here that we have found a governor who is truly interested in the growth of the young men and women of Abia State.

“Governor Orji believes that we can use sports and entertainment to rebrand Abia State. The governor believes that after my fight in Aba, all other talented youths of the state will come forth to use their talent in helping the state to grow. So I cannot disappoint the governor. I pledge to be the best at the Commonwealth Championship; I also assure everybody here that I will retain my crown when I meet Joe Legend in Aba,” he said.
