Yenagoa—The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State may be heading for fresh crisis over alleged attempts by some politicians in the state to hijack the leadership of the state House of Assembly to impeach the governor and the emergence of a new political group known as Bayelsa Alliance.
It was reliably gathered that the emergence of the new group, under the chairmanship of Senator Emmanuel Paulker, and the former state Chairman of the Party, Chief Fred Agbedi, is now causing anxiety among the various factions existing within the ruling party.
Only yesterday the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Ola Doifie, hinted of alleged secret plot by some politicians in the state to initiate a recall of some notable members of the state House of Assembly in order to impeach the state governor and throw the state into confusion.
Bayelsa Alliance, it was learnt, is a fusion of powerful elements of the defunct Green Movement and New Vision, the political machineries of former Bayelsa governor, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, and former NDDC Managing Director, Timi Alaibe.
The fusion of the group, it was learnt, is now causing anxiety among loyalists of the incumbent governor.
The emergence of Bayelsa Alliance, according to analysts, is an indication that the political battle-line for 2011 elections had been drawn in the state.
Confirming the emergence of Bayelsa Alliance during a chat with newsmen in Yenagoa, the steering committee secretary, Mr. Fred Agbedi, said the group was a platform towards articulating the physical development of Bayelsa State .
Chief Agbedi, who confirmed the new alliance, expressed the commitment of the Alliance to the ideals of good governance and democracy, stressing that it was high time the people were provided the right leadership that would make them realize their aspirations.
In the statement issued from the office of the governor by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Ola Doifie, the state governor would not fold his arms and allow those tagged paid agents and disgruntled elements to cause trouble in order to gain selfish agenda in the state.
The statement read:  “It has come to the attention of Bayelsa State governor, Chief Timipre Sylva, that some persons and paid agents with vested political interests are on a mission to cause trouble and upset the prevailing peace in the state.
“These people want to achieve their outrageous enterprise ostensibly through a deceptive recall of some members of our State House of Assembly based on trumped-up charges when their target is actually the governor himself.
“Governor Sylva believes this attempt is to cause disharmony between the executive and legislature in the state and strain the cordial working relationship between the two arms of government, which has remained tranquil since the inception of the Sylva administration.
“The governor believes the current House of Assembly members in the state have done very well and that there is no basis for the recall of any assembly member. For the avoidance of doubt, the state government would not fold its arms and watch this crop of disgruntled elements and their backers cause trouble in the state in order to oil their selfish political agenda.
“Government believes that in a democracy, all segments of society are entitled to express genuine opinion on how to advance our collective interest but no one should put a spoke in our wheel of progress.
“Governor Sylva  seize this opportunity to invite all Bayelsans to join him in his determination to transform the state based on the principle of “forward ever and backward neverâ€, to the benefit of Bayelsans, the Ijaw, and the larger Nigerian society.
“The Sylva administration has set in motion a three-pronged programme of human development, infrastructural development, and security advancement to ensure sustained growth and progress and truly justify “The Glory of all Lands†that we are.â€
