ABUJA—An Abuja high court sitting in Gudu, yesterday granted bail to the widow of late Major General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, Hajiya Asabe Yar’Adua, who was allegedly accused by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to have conspired with one Miss Linda Anyanwu to defraud the comptroller-General of Customs.
Hajiya Asabe, who was brought to court yesterday from the Suleja prisons where she had been kept since June 5, broke into tears as Justice Abubakar Yalba ordered their release, despite vehement opposition from the EFCC who had expressed fear that they may jump bail if released.
Ruling on their bail applications yesterday, Justice Yalba maintained that the accused persons satisfied the provisions of section 241 of the CPC to warrant the exercise of his discretion to their favour.
He granted them bail in the sum of N1million and ordered them to provide two sureties that must show evidence of residency in Abuja, to enter into bond for them in the like sum.
They were also mandated to submit their travelling documents to the court registrar, show evidence of tax payment, as well as, to swear an affidavit that they would be available for the continuation of their trial.
