The Federal govern-ment and Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) on â€œOne Local Government One Product (OLOP)â€ programme for revitalizing Nigeria â€™s rural economy.
Signing on behalf of the Federal government yesterday, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Linus Awute who noted that Nigeria was prepared to embrace every available opportunity to grow the economy, said, the â€œOne Local Government One Productâ€ programme would avail the government the opportunity to learn more on programme implementation, just as he promised governmentâ€™s readiness to ensure the success of the project.
Mr. Udae Takafumi, Head of the Japanese Mission and JICA Senior Advisor on Private Sector development signed on behalf of the Government of Japan .
According to the Permanent Secretary, â€œWe will not allow the program to be like other kinds of programmes that the country have had.Â Â Since it has to do with JICA, a lot of success stories will come out of it, particularly in the area of agriculture.Â I know the number of ambitious programmes JICA has collaborated with the Ministryâ€.
Earlier in his remarks, the Head of the Mission, Mr. Udae Takafumi who commended the Ministry for its cooperation and support for the programme, disclosed that the project will signify the end of the relationship, but the beginning of long lasting collaboration between the Federal Government and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
