BENINâ€”Edo state Government has approved two major contracts for the design and dualisation of Siluko road and the construction of Costain/Isonorho roads at the cost of N3 billion.
The government also awarded the design of Storm Water Masterplan and flood/erosion control at the cost of N446 million.
The state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Abdul Oroh, who disclosed this to newsmen shortly after the State Executive Council meeting, said the design and dualisation of Siluko Road would cost the state government the sum of N2.5 billion, while the construction of Costain/Isonorbo roads is N44.9 million.
In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer to Government House, Mr. Mike Aviomoh, the commissioner said all arrangements have been concluded for the contracting firm to commence work immediately, adding that the state government was determined to ensure that the roads in Benin are motorable.
Commenting further on the issue, the state Commissioner for Works, Mr Erhauyi Obayagbonna, explained that Siluko road construction was awarded to a Lagos-based Company, Hiteck Constructions Limited, saying that the first phase of the dualization exercise from Oba market road to Texile Mill road junction would commence soon.
He added that the dualization would include the construction of bus stops, lay-byes, HPS street lights, de-flooding of Garrick layout and the Akugbe lane axis as well as re-construction fences and other light structures that may be impacted by the road construction works.
Obayagbonna also announced the award of contract for the reconstruction and provision of drainage for Constain-Isonorho roads, and Guobadia and Oni roads at the cost of N442.9million.
