Awka – As part of its efforts to boost food production, the Anambra Government isÂ to provide a N1 billion loan to farmers in the state.
Mr Leo Imoka, Programme Manager, Agricultural Development Programme (ADP) in the state, announced this in Awka, yesterday, at a forum of the National Programme for Food Security.
He said that the statesâ€™ Ministry of Agriculture through the ADP, would guarantee farmers easy access to loan facilities from the Federal Government.
He said that the essence of the forum was to address the issue of loan recovery from some farmersâ€™ groups in the state. He urged participants at the forum to adhere strictly to the credit guidelines as stipulated by the National Programme for Food Security.
Imoka said that the implementation of the national programme for food security in the state had contributed to the production of high yielding maize and rice seedlings which would be distributed to farmers at 50 per cent subsidy.The Director, ADP Rural Institution Department, Mr Joseph Onogha, urged farmers to ensure prompt payment of their loans.
