IBADAN—THE governorship candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi has challenged Akala to explain to the people of the state benefits that have been derived from countless foreign trips he has made so far.
Ajimobi said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state had vindicated the views of the opposition party that nothing good could come from a government which allegedly stole the mandate of the people of the state during the 2007 elections.
He made these accusations in Saki, Oke Ogun area of the state on Tuesday while paying a thank you visit to the teeming supporters of the party for the way they voted en masse for him in the election even though their mandate was stolen by the ruling party.
Apparently disappointed by the Appeal Court judgment that confirmed the victory of the incumbent governor at the poll, he stressed that there would be no need seeking redress at the tribunal or court come 2011.
Instead, he vowed that ANPP would not fold its arms and watch a repeat performance of electoral malpractices, ballot stuffing, over voting and intimidation of voters in the next election.
“Everybody knew we won that election in Oyo State. But this time around, we are not going to court to seek any redress but we will solve everything on the street.
I cannot assure any person that there won’t be another attempt to steal peoples’ votes. People must not wait for Ajimobi but should take their own destinies in their handsâ€, he stated.
On the issue that some of the members of his party have crossed to Akala’s camp, he replied saying that no decent member of the party would descend so low that they would join a party that only specializes in stealing public fund.
Senator Ajimobi added that the idea of mega party to fight injustice and overbearing influence of the ruling party was not a bad idea and that he had been having meetings with them to signify his support.
He said, “I support the idea of forming a mega party to withstand the overbearing influence of the ruling party whose stock in trade is to deny the people of this country a genuine democracy.
We have to come together to check them. No single party can stand alone and fight these brigands.
I am coordinating the mega party in Oyo State, so I absolutely believe in itâ€.
