AEPB seals off NPL, sacks staff

By Fidelis Ebu
ABUJA — Staff of the   Nigeria Premier League yesterday suffered humiliation as they were forced out of their offices by court bailiffs as well as officers from the Abuja Environmental Protection Board.

The stern-looking bailiffs and AEPB officers had arrived the premises of the NPL at about 9:30 a.m. and immediately ordered the staff out of their offices as they sealed off the gates with padlocks.

The seal off order number 639 was conspicuously placed at the NPL gate with the court order dated July 9, 2009.
It was a bitter sweet experience for the NPL staff that have not been paid their  salaries since three months  as they quickly went back home in compliance with the court bailiff’s and AEPB officers’ directive.

The court order dated July 9, 2009 partly read, “Upon hearing counsel to the prosecution the court after being satisfied that the bill of charges was served on the accused person but remained unpaid and summons to appear before this court was served twice (on the 23rd June 2009 and 7th May, 2009) but accused neglected or failed to answer the summons.

“It was hereby ordered as follows: pursuant to section 38, 39 and 45 of the AEPB Act no 10 of 1997 and section 2 of the AEPB Regulations 2005, the premises of respondent at No 3, Kwame Nkruma Crescent, Asokoro Abuja is to be sealed off pending the appearance of the accused person in the court”.
