LOKOJA — NO fewer than 14 persons yesterday lost their lives and scores of others injured in two separate accidents that occurred between Lokoja and Kotonkarfi axis of Kogi State.
In one of the accidents that occurred at about 2 a.m. on the Jamata bridge, Vanguard gathered that it involved a J5 Peugeot Bus with number plate AE780QAP which ran into a stationary truck, killing six passengers on board while eight were seriously wounded.
Eight of the wounded passengers are currently receiving attention at the Federal Medical Centre in the state capital.
The State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) ,Yomi Asaniyan, who confirmed the accidents said 17 persons were on board the bus at the of the mishap.
Asaniyan said barely 24 hours after the incident, a Toyota Hiace bus and a Peugeot 504 station wagon collided at Okpaka village, killing eight passengers and injuring nine.
The FRSC boss attributed the accident to over-speeding just as he said the sum of N415,385 were recovered from the victims.
