Umuahia—IN what appeared like passing a vote of no confidence on the state Police Command and other security agencies in the state, Abia State House of Assembly, has called on the Inspector-General of Police to redeploy the state Police Commissioner, Mr. Edgar Nanakumo, even as it urged President Umaru Yar’Adua to declare Abia State a security disaster area.
The House also called on the Director-General of State Security Service (SSS) to redeploy its present leadership in the state. The House noted that the security agencies have failed to provide security to the people of the state.
The call followed rising cases of violent crime in the state, especially kidnapping. Early in the week, five policemen were killed and burnt by suspected kidnappers.
Calling for total overhaul of the entire police command in the state, the House in a resolution called on the Inspector-General of Police to also redeploy the Deputy Police Commissioner, all the Area Commanders, the Deputy Commissioner CID, and other top officers of the police force in the state.
The House further urged the Inspector-General of Police to relocate to the state to oversee the crime fighting in the state.
The position of the House came on a day the government said that it had discovered tailors in the state, who sew army and police uniforms and give to criminals, saying that it has prohibited private tailors from sewing uniforms for members of the armed forces in the state.
