ISANLU (KOGI) TRAGEDY — struck in Isanlu, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, yesterday, when an 18 years old girl, Dupe Abayomi, buried her baby alive.
Vanguard gathered that Dupe, a JSS three student who was delivered of a baby boy about a month ago, was said to have headed for a nearby forests where she dumped the baby in a shallow grave which she dug by herself, yesterday.
However, the baby survived because the mother left his head uncovered. The uncovered part of the baby drew the attention of passersby, who alerted the community.
Members of the community were said to have immediately swung into action by following the trail of blood to Dupe’s residence.
Speaking to Vanguard, yesterday, in Isanlu, Dupe claimed that she was under the influence of some evil spirits who instructed her to dump or bury the baby after delivery.
“I am not the owner of the pregnancy. Some people gave me to keep and the instruction was that as soon as I am delivered of the baby, I should go and keep it at a particular place for them,†she said.
When asked who the people were, she answered, “I don’t know. All I can say is that I have taken the baby to the owners. I have assisted them to carry the pregnancy for nine months and I have delivered their baby to the designated point.â€
The traditional ruler of the town, Itedo-Irunda Oba Moses Atteh, when contacted confirmed the incident.
