General we’ve seen a lot of military officers that did not die neither get rich in the bagger job, so i wish you will do your best and see them through cos these chop for nothing crooks will do you no good when you get retired .

May the blood of the pensioners who died out of poverty be on the so called leaders who forgot them. Just look at what some of them are looting on daily basis(billions) and you feel ashamed to be a Nigerian. Mr. President, I know that you are not so corrupt just that the sychophants around you wont let you see and feel what the real Nigerians are going through. Why do we keep punishing our ex-servicemen, or is it not a crime to serve the country, after service , we make them beggers, PLEASE PAY THIS GUYS THEIR MONEY THEY HAVE SUFFERED ENOUGH FOR THE COUUNTRY. MEN & WOMEN THAT HAVE GIVEN MORE THAN 30 YEARS, JUST FOR THEM TO GO AND REST, THE MILITARY STILL STEAL THEIR MONEY AND STILL WILL NOT PAY THEM EVEN AFTER GETTING IT FROM THE GOVERNMENT. National identity card problem-to pay the pensions and salaries of soldiers-same old lies–some die while waiting-for their wages-how then do you expect them to povide basic social amenites for the citizens? i have said it many times and will continue to say it again and again-that most of our leaders are not Nigerians-they are imported economic migrants-from Niger Republic, Senegal and Chad-even to pay rents on the nations embassies abroad-no way-they connive to sell the few ones-we bought-the level of deception in the country is terrible-even with their daily attendance to Mosques and Churches-soon those who pay to serve in the bunkering infested waters of the Niger Delta-will cry out for theirs-for a country to steal money meant for soldiers who served in UN-sponsored peace operation–means our thieving leaders past and present-needs to be deported to a leprosy rehabilitation-colony-in the sahara desert-soon we shall all be there to vote them in again-so why complain-when we dont even know the number of men serving in the armed forces-including the Police -not to talk of retirees-these are things that can be produced within minutes from a computer-what a country-what an amnesty-what a disgrace-yet we say no to SNC-

Brig. Gen. Bitrus Kwaji, having understood the thrust of your well-articulated statement pertaining to the issue of upward review on salaries of civil/public servants and its concomitant effects on pension benefits, military pensioners inclusive, the implications or outcome with regards to the persistent delays and/or denial of the payment thereof poses great concern to the civil society and rights activist groups both at home and abroad.

Firstly, going by the number of pensioners affected, this is an issue that could have been resolved with the shortest possible time rather than allowing it to linger on. This is no time to dilly-dally considering the persistent bizarre avoidable situation currently being witnessed. We do not think it is wise exacerbating the situation further.

Secondly, we understand the great role that security plays in the sustenance of democracy likewise its position towards engenderment of enabling environment for day to day business activities and associated tasks.

It behoves government, for the sake of peace, harmoniousness and fairness, to without hesitation look into this matter concerning the pension benefits of these military personnel who have served their nation gallantly.

Besides this, government ought to, on a periodic basis, organize fora for serving and pensioned military men and officers aimed at catering for their well-being and exposing them to the tenets of integration/adjustment to the setting of civilian rule.

Above-all, there is dire need to embark on an all encompassing reformation of the nation’s military in conformation to standards attainable internationally in areas of training, provisions of equipment and overall welfare of the men and officers of the institution.

How much does this translate to in Naira & Kobo? I know very well that this is nothing compare to Billions stacked away in different foreign currencies outside the shores of this nation by our corrupt leaders past and present. Must they always be pushed before they do what is right?

It all bows down to lack of proper planning. You know what your responsibilities are as a government, you go ahead and factor such responsibilities in your expense estimate. You can start paying little by little until you get sufficient funds to upset the debt. The way things are, the debt will be too much and the government will be unable to pay and soon we have another wahala on our hands. I urge the govt to start something regardless of how little the amount. Those involved especially the lower cadre have nothing to live on but the meager pension. Please consider them. Who knows you may be in the same situation one day.
