I’ll confront Yar’Adua in 2011 — SHEKARAU

By AbdulSalam Muhammad

KANO — Kano State Governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau has expressed his desire to challenge President Umar Musa Yar’Adua for the presidency if given the mandate by the All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP) in 2011.

Shekarau, who spoke in Kano during a roundtable discussion with the state-owned newspaper (Triumph) however, hinged his final acceptance on the collective decision of “my party through appropriate structure and endorsed by the party congress”.

“I am loyal to my party and will always be willing to do any assignment given by my party and would definitely not let my party’s offer down in the event such offer comes through the appropriate structure and endorsed by the convention,” Shekarau stressed.

His latest position has further reinforced agitation by his admirers and political associates to draft him into open confrontation with his political soul mate in 2011 presidential battle.

Shekarau, who had strategically remained in the ANPP at a time others were defecting to the ruling party (PDP), urged his well wishers to pray for Allah’s guidance to him and guide his party to make the best decision as to whom among its members should be its presidential candidate.

He, however, made it clear that he is prepared to support whoever the party chooses to ensure his victory in 2011.

The Kano Governor, who has three non-indigenes serving as full cabinet members  has of recent been given chieftaincy titles from paramount rulers of several ethnic nationalities across the country.

Shekarau explained during the roundtable programme that “every political move for me to take, as regards 2011 election, rests on my party because it is the platform through which somebody will seek for an elective position”.

  1. What can I tell you all? You are happy that you have stupid and selfish idiots who call themselves politicians from the Niger Delta region as your collaborators. Otherwise, how can you be planning to retate the presidency between the North and the West as you have been doing since independence in 1960 till now while relying 100% on the resources of the Niger Delta to run or ruin the country?.
If the president does not qualify to re-run what about the vice president? Has he been tried and he failed? Niger Delta politicians made it possible for you so I do not blame you!

  2. To statrt with, I will never vote for any ANPP candidate in a presidential election in Nigeria for the time being.
What will happen to sharia in kano if Shekarau contests and win the next presidential election? Disappear or taken to Abuja the way Aliero is trying to force beer lovers like myself to stop me from drinking and thereby denying me my fundamental human rights. Malam should be content with his record breaking 2-term stewardship in kano. Any thing other than that is a recipe for political disaster.
Yar’Adua should forget a second tenure and go for a god rest.

  3. Shekarau has the right to compete for the presidency as a Nigerian. without trying to discourage him, let him not overlook what they call in Nigeria only”power of incumbency” and “continuity” the first one means..using the office they occupy to rob other fellow Nigerians of fair shake. The second means(continuity) to “sit tight” and and go nowhere even in the face of criminal non performance in office. The “continuity” here means Maurice Iwu, the dribbler dazzler, will be on hand to ensure their “continuity”.
Therefore, Ibrahim, may heavens speed you in your enterprise.
