ABUJA – The Vice President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr. He Xing, of China Great Wall Industry Incorporation (CGWIC), the firm that designed and build the crashed N24 billion NigComsat 1 satellite, has affirmed that the company would replace the de-orbited satellite at not cost to Nigeria.
He said the new satellite would be launched into space for Nigeria and its customers in the next two years.
Mr. Zing made this known yesterday in Abuja when he paid a visit to the Speaker of the House of Represenatatives, Hon. Dimeji Bankole.
“We want to maintain the great relationship that China and Nigeria has been having for many decades now”, he told the Speaker who was represented by the Leader of the House, Hon. Tunde Akogun.
“We want Nigeria to know that China is honest in it relationship with Nigeria, and we are going to honour all agreements and understanding that we have both signed,” he said.
“We are going to replace the damaged Nigerian Communications Satellite that we designed, built and launched for your country in 2007”, said.

As much as i congratulate Nigeria in the lauching of the said satcomm and registering her name in the world legend in that respect, i sometimes wonder if it would not have been better if we invested that scarce resource into electricity or of what importance is telecom and all the IT bragado without electricity. I regret to say that we have a very myopic government that lacks an IQ of priority. Nigeria should be ashamed that in 2009 we are still operating like we are in the 40-50’s when lantern was the in thing. I think the government should be thanking God the satellite got lost somewhere cos that way they have something to blame for their poor sense of judgement, mismanagement and failure; like i have always said about nigcomsat that is supposed to be overseeing this IT revolution, they lack the simply knowledge of updating their website how much more marketing and other enterpreneurial tacts….i hate to spell doom but fellow Nigerians, this is another smoke screen; dont be decieved this is same people, same drama, same tricks and same much ado about nothing. God bless Nigeria whether they like it or not.
Satellite is system which can develop fault any time, you cannot blame anybody for that .Thank God for the replacement .I pray to God to workout well
Watch out! There is no free meal
The damaged NigComSat-1; less than a year after it was designed, is a proof of the lacklustre attitude of our political leaders and portrays the technical incompetence of our so called half-baked IT professionals at the helm of affairs in Nigeria. We need a holistic change;a change we can trust. Not a change that is full of political prevarications and lies. Which way Nigeria?.
The damaged sat. was built in China and now saying they will not collect anything from us to launch it again. Oh, thank u.
