NUDE pictures of some members of the Ogun State House of Assembly published last week in newspapers are minor indices of where we are as a country.
Unexpectedly, the owners of the pictures have admitted that the pictures were theirs, with slight disagreements about whether they were taken in a shrine or the private home of the Ogun State governor.
These are the latest scenes from the apathetic drama that has been on in the State for some months. The Executive and the Legislature are locked in disputes that bear no relevance to discharging their responsibilities for the well-being of the people.
An initial newspaper report was that those involved swore to an oath to fight the governor to the end. The oath-takers claimed the oath was a forced pledge of their allegiance to the governor – a practice they said was common state-wide.
None of these interests us. Our concerns are over the depravity that has taken over our politics. We thought the days allegiance to individuals were through with incidents at the Okija Shrine six years ago.
It seems that there are other shrines still in business, thanks to the desperate desires of politicians to lay their hands on power at all costs.
The Constitution which the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary swear to uphold, prescribes two oaths in the Seventh Schedule, oath of allegiance and oath of office or membership.
The oath of allegiance states, “I do solemnly swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and that I will preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. So help me God”.
Each state legislature swears or affirms thus, “I do solemnly swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to the Federal Republic of Nigeria; that as a Member of the State House of Assembly, I will perform my functions honestly to the best of my ability, faithfully and in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the law, and the rules of the House of Assembly and always in the interest of the sovereignty, integrity, solidarity, well-being and prosperity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria;
that I will strive to preserve the Fundamental Objectives and Principles of State Policy contained in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; and that I will preserve, defend and protect the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; and that I will abide by the Code of Conduct that is contained in the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. So help me God”. Allegiance is to Nigeria and the Nigerian people.
The Fifth Schedule Part I, Article 10 of the Constitution (Code of Conduct) states, “A public officer shall not be a member of, or belong to, or take part in any society the membership of which is incompatible with the functions or dignity of his office”.
The Code of Conduct Bureau should investigate this embarrassment.

IT IS A VERY HAPPY STORY THAT THIS IS HAPPENING IN OGUN STATE,THE HOME STATE OF EVIL OBJ.IF IT WERE IN ANAMBRA STATE OR IMO STATE ,THE GOVERNOR WOULD HAVE BEEN REMOVED.GBENGA DANIEL SHOULD BE IMPEACHED AND PROSECUTED IMMEDIATELY.HE IS NOT THE ONLY OCCULT GOVERNOR BUT IT IS ONLY A THIEF THAT IS CAUGHT RED HANDED IS A THIEF,THE ONES THAT ESCAPE ARE NOT THIEVES.WE KNOW THAT MOST OF OUR POLITICIANS ARE OCCULTS BUT JUDGEMENT MUST START IN OGUN STATE.YARADUA WILL BE TOO STUPID TO PLEAD FOR OGD TO CONTINUE IN POWER.HE IN HIS STUPIDITY AND WICKEDNESS WANTS PETER OBI TO BE REMOVED AND OGD THE GRAND OCCULT TO REMAIN ON SEAT.WE DESPERATELY NEED SERIOUS AND IMPARTIAL REVOLUTION IN NIGERIA AND NOT THIS GODAMMED DEMOSTRATION OF CRAZE.
Can you please cut out this websiteI don’t know how it got to be inserted on this matter – besides, you have in brackets mail will not be published; how come?
Everybody is corrupt in Nigeria. I think it all boils down to what we understand by the word ‘corruption’. The fact is, majority of those blogging today and products of corruption and they are only scared of their future in Nigeria. Let the government do the right thing so that corruption will be addressed at the regional levels. Continue to call for true federalism..
The only solution lies in the implementation of true federalism which Mend, Lagos State and others are clamouring for. Fashola must not waste his time hoping on this Federal Government of the North but rather, he should continue pressing for true federalism which his State Assemblymen has started agitating for. Very simple..
i strongly recommend that Nigerians should refrain from going to the polls to elect occultist and God-fearing poli-trick-tians. Just know now that eternal damnation and suffering awaits their soul not withstanding their criminal and corrupt lust for money, materials and power.
i really feel sorry for all these so called leaders.
Waffi, what makes you think the Northerners dont have rights to comment on issues such as serious as occultic governance in Nigeria? Didnt you watch the live video on saharareporters where one of your governors Orji was caught naked in a shrine? Woe betide you and your tribe for ever saying that we are oil induced. If not for the Niger Deltaeans, what do you have in that your landlock red sanded forest?
